![]() Ofc, I don't usually use a controller so it might just be what I'm used to. As many have said, there are pros an cons, but I think playing with m&k is much more immersive because of the speed with which you can whip your camera, especially when walking around. On that day I can forget about any muscle memory I will have built up with the previous spell UI I had and enjoy casting the wrong spell at the wrong time. This is actually fine for the time being but I'm relatively close to the beginning of the game and I'm not looking forward to the day where a combination of enemy types and shield charms show up that force me to have to die and then change my UI around in order to properly fight them without a huge amount of frustration. It's a real shame, too, because most of combat atm seems to be me trying to remember what spell slot to use for a particular spell and where did I put it this time as I needed to move them around yet again to escape the inconvenience of changing slots just to interact with the environment outside of combat, then fumbling to do 2 actions to cast one spell (switch slot and then cast it) meaning even though it would be quite simple to cast the combination of correct spells, they've made a complete pigs dinner of it and the player is forced to endure needless feats attached to the UI rather than the actual combat. They could solve this by keeping the spell slots (as it's part of the upgrade system) but allowing the shift and ctrl button keybindings and also adding the ability to map bindings to spell slot 1 skill 1, spellslot 2 skill 1 etc. Nobody seems to be talking about the main constraint with the PC controls which is that because of it being a system designed for the controller, you still have to switch spell sets back and forth, when you could just be using different keybindings.Īs it is, the ability to map a spell to ctrl+ or shift+ does not exist, so despite having far fewer spells than WoW, my ability to cast them is worse. But again a 12 button mouse means I can change alot of the pesky keybinds to be on right hand leaving just WASD and Q, G on left ( I also secondary bind those to my mouse as well including Dodge, Sprint and Mount and Lock on to middle click) Some games definitely need controllers I felt that way for all FF games generally but I always playing 3rd person shooters like Mass Effect on mouse/keyboard.įor those used to console controller works amazing but I will only use one when the kb/m controls are unbindable or just feel wonky. ![]() As a PC gamer and huge MMO player my Naga/Scimtar/G600 make keybinding easy I just changed my dodge from control to alt and Z/X to 5 and 6 on my mouse the Spell sets can stay on F keys I did try to change Protego to Right click but I got used to Q and G for Protego/Heal so Aim mode can stay on right click when i need it. I tried both and thought after trying kb/m that maybe controller would be more fluid but i couldn't fight as easily as I had been getting used to kb/m plus exploring feels more natural on keyboard so it would be a pain to swap because I am ADD and explore more than following quests. If you have any keybind ideas, please let me know! □□ Also might switch Protego to the right mouse button. Today I just realized that the E key wasn’t bound to anything, so that’s definitely getting changed. I’m still working out the keybinds to help smooth things out, but I think I’m getting closer. Camera movement with a mouse makes much more of a difference that I ever expected. I gave it a chance but it just felt like a whole new handicap. Not being able to whip my screen fast enough in a direction I needed to look was even more frustrating. I tried rebinding but hadn’t settled on anything comfortable so I switched to controller.Īlmost immediately I noticed how sloppy movement felt with looking around. Accidentally hitting tab or caps lock with all the confusion just got irritating. ![]() Having spells on 1-4 were just a little too inconvenient since I use the ring finger for 1, middle finger for 2-3, and index for 4, not to mention ring finger for Z and thumb for X. Hovering the ring finger around Q for Protego when anticipating a regular attack didn’t give me enough time to react and reach my pinky to Ctrl for dodging a strong attack. Having to react to something quickly is harder to do when you need to use different fingers. In the middle of a battle, I felt like my fingers were fighting each other trying to get to the different keys I wanted to press. I started out with K&M, and it got a bit difficult as I started unlocking more spells.
